History of Wing Chun Kung Fu

Ng Mui

A woman invented Wing Chun who was an ordinary woman but extraordinary wisdom and skills. This woman was known as Abbess Ng Mui.

Yim Wing Chun

Abbess Ng Mui loved her first disciple and very pleased with her characters as how she had the heart for the art; therefore, Abbess Ng Mui decided to name the art after her first disciple – Wing Chun. Wing Chun came from the name of Yim Wing Chun.

Ip Man

Grandmaster Ip Man was known as the first Wing Chun teacher(Sifu) that brought Wing Chun to be known by the public back in Hong Kong after he escaped from Foshan.

Grandmaster Ip Man officially formed a Wing Chun School during his teaching in Hong Kong in 1967 called Ving Tsun Athletic Association. During this time when Bruce Lee came to join the school. And now because of Bruce Lee, we came to know Wing Chun and it is the most popular Kung Fu system around the world.

Bruce Lee

Even though his teacher Ip Man was the first teacher that brought Wing Chun in public in Hong Kong, but without Bruce Lee’s inspiration, fame and films, it would be hard to be known throughout the around as we’ve known today. According to Grandmaster Ip Chun, the son of Grandmaster Ip Man during an interview said, “Wing Chun helped Bruce Lee, and Bruce Lee helped Wing Chun.”
